A little further out of town, 15 km south of Gaborone on the Lobatse road, is the only formal animal sanctuary in the country, Mokolodi Nature Reserve.

This is a private reserve established in 1994 by the Mokolodi Wildlife Foundation, whose aim it is to further environmental education and to conserve the flora and fauna of southeastern Botswana.

Animals you can see there include white rhino, giraffe, kudu, eland, impala, gemsbok, ostrich, wildebeest, red hartebeest, wharthog and zebra.

Mokolodi provides accomodation in the form of well-equipped chalets, dormitories (booking essential) and campsites, and has a restaurant, education centre and a gift shop.

The Mokolodi cheetah encounter allows visitors to stand with and touch these animals. Beautiful !!!!                                                                                                                                              

Activities include game drive and walks, the tracking of rhino and giraffe, a cheetah encounter, a snake park, night drives, star-gazing, bush braais and bush lunches.
