Large, red, mobile sand dunes, fascinating subjects for photographers, occur in the vicinity of Bokspits.

About 20 km to the east is Rappel's Pan, which provides an excellent opportunity to investigate these curious features of the southern Kalahari.

Provided one stays on the main roads, there is no need to use a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

Among many interesting features of the area are the remarkable nests of the sociable weavers.
These massive structures of woven grass stems may be home to several hundred of the small communal birds.
They also provide shelter for snakes, scorpions and a great array of parasites, and for other birds, including owls and falcons.

A magnificent sight, common along the Kuruman and Molopo rivers, are the striking groves of Acacia erioloba, or Camelthorn acacia.

These are large trees, specially adapted for this difficult environment.
Their seed pods are a vital source of protein for stock and wild animals, particularly when other food is difficult to come by.

The road that leads to the northwest, along the Botswana side of the Nossob River, takes you to the Botswana entrance of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park.
The entrance is known in Botswana as Two Rivers (Twee Rivieren in South Africa).
It is also possible to enter South Africa from Bokspits.
There are now two new tarmac roads, one from Upington and the other from Tshabong to Bokspits.
Together, these make Bokspits and the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park much more accesible.
