Served by the tarred road from Francistown, the Kasane/Chobe area is becoming increasingly popular with motorists.
It is relatively easy to get there, the whole journey can be completed in a standard vehicle.

The Chobe National Park's facilities are often overcrowded especially in school holidays, and the area cannot easily be enjoyed except in a 4x4.

The overcrowding is being addressed by introducing a booking system and hopefully an effort will also be made to upgrade the roads for normal cars.

For those without a 4x4, the only option at the moment is to take a place on one of the many commercial game drives or boat rides organised by local safari operators (note that the entrance fee covers all your visits during a single day).

The second effort to reduce overcrowding was the closure of the Serondela Camp and the construction of a replacement at Ihaha, still on the river but about 15 km further west.

Lastly, the entrance to the park has been relocated, and this, hopefully, will disperse visitors over a wider area.
